These turned out great!  Perfect for holding taco meat!! I got the recipe here!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Almond flour
  • 1/2 cup arrowroot powder
  • 4 egg whites
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • dash of salt and pepper
  • coconut oil for cooking

Mix all the ingredients together (except coconut oil).  Heat the oil in the skillet, pour some batter in the skillet and swirl around so that it spreads out.  Cook it like a pancake.  Flip it over and cook other side.  It will seem stiff at first but will be pliable once it cools.  Enjoy!

I made these shells tonight for dinner…they were a hit!!! Everyone loved them!!

Can you substitute tapioca flour for arrowroot?

  4. Jael says:

I’d have to say, I had my reservations about making these because paleo “breads” seem to always fall apart but these were tasty, sturdy, and so easy to make. Thank you so very much for the recipe!

Can you freeze these and use them later?

  6. Sharein says:

Can these be made ahead of time and refrigerated or frozen?

I have stored them in the refrigerator for a couple of days after making them and they were great! I’ve never tried freezing them, but it seems like they would hold up just fine!

I don’t have arrowroot powder or tapioca flour. Buzzle.com is suggesting that corn starch is the same or similar but doesn’t seem interchangeable for this recipe. 1/2 a cup of corn starch does not sound like a good idea and is not paleo. What are your thoughts?

    • paleodawn says:

Since tapioca and arrowroot are both starches I would imagine cornstarch would act similar in this recipe. Potato starch may work as well? But you’re right, these aren’t paleo and I’ve never tried using other starches. Many regular grocery stores have tapioca starch and I’ve seen arrowroot in the spice section sometimes. Good luck!

I keep making these whenever we have taco night! (I add garlic powder to mine and they are off the handle!)
    Great recipe! Thank you!
